As we've done every year for several years now, Kerry and I drove up to U.C. Davis for a stroll down memory lane and a look at our first live baseball of the new season. We first arrived in Davis from Germany in June of 1986. My brother and his wife, who'd moved there from the Bay Area more than a year earlier, were kind enough to let us stay with them until we found a place to live. Two days later we moved into Russell Park which was on campus married student housing. We lived in Russell Park for the next three years. I went to law school, Kerry went to graduate school, and our daughter was born. Davis continues to occupy a special place in our hearts for those and many other reasons.
Our first evening in Davis we walked into town with my brother and his wife and ate at Steve's Pizza. So, when we go back once a year for a little Aggie baseball, we start the day with lunch at Steve's. It's hard to believe our first meal there was 29 yeas ago. The university and town have both grown considerably since those long ago days, but the general feeling of both places is still cognizable to a couple of alums now approaching their sixties. Time indeed flies.
